Old Drewry and Nancy Carroll came from NC and settled on Smokey
Creek, Scott Co TN.
1850 Scott Co census lists: 240-241 CARROLL; Drewry, age 74 male
farmer 500 NC 1794. Wife; Nancy, age 74 NC.
OLD DREWRY AND NANCY CHILDREN;
Drewry (b/1800), Edward T(b/1811), Alonzo(b/1848). Louisa(b/1821),
Martha(b/1840), Honorah(b/1843), Miram(b/1845).
(1850 Scott Co Census). Old Drewry had a daughter named Nancy(b/1807)
who md Henry Goodman(b/1807), their children; Jesse, Rachel, Drewry,
Nancy.

SELAH WARD AND DREWRY CARROLL GENERATION.
Selah was the d/o Benjamin II Ward Jr, and Catherine Harmon from
Valle Crucis NC there is a lot of evidence found to support this.

DREWRY CARROLL(1800-1874) md SELAH3 WARD(1806-1879). d/o Benjamin
Ward II Jr and Catherine Harmon Ward. Selah Ward md 1st Drewry
Carroll(1800-1874), s/o Old Drewry and Nancy who settled on Smokey
Creek. There is evidence of a blood tie between the Carrolls and
the descendents of Cherokee Smokey and his Squaw woman who were
living on Smokey Creek when the 1st settler came namely; Grand
Mikel Low in the late 1700's; The Indian did not like Low's presence
on Smokey Creek, they later became involved in a death struggle
between them, Mikel slew the Indian, his Squaw remained in the
settlement and had several ½ breed children, according to folklore
her children were Carrolls and Low's, her daughter named Louisa
Carroll was the 1st wife of Old Madison Kennedy.
Selah and Drewry may have married in NC and could have come with
parents about 1824 and settled on Smokey Creek in Scott County.
In 1835 Drewry bought 20 acres on Beech Fork at New River from
his father-in-law, Benjamin Ward II Jr. This is the last document
I believe that Old Benjamin 2 signed, he died about 1838.
Drewry is buried in Adkins-Carroll Cem., Beech Fork Crk, Campbell
Co. on his land. Old Grand Mickel Lowe is buried in Old Smokey
Church Cem., Scott Co. Celah3 Ward Carroll md 2nd to Sampson
Stanfield(1800-1887). Celah3 and Sampson buried at Stanfield
Church, Elk Valley(no children).

This John Carroll(1805-1885) is listed in the Campbell Co TN census
from Ky, However, I believe he is a son of Old Drewry Carroll from
Smokey Creek. This John is believed to have fought in the Civil
War. No children except stepchildren. This John is buried in the
John Carroll Cemetery on Red Oak MT. Above his old homeplace; The
dividing line of Anderson and Campbell Co TN. On a visit in 1985,
the old chimney rocks were still standing.
DIRCTIONS; Where HWY 116 crosses New River, take the road to Beech
Fork(SHEA), going downriver to the 2nd mountain hollow, follow the
right side of the hollow to the top of the ridge(John Carroll
Cemetery). ROUGH MT., TERRAIN A GUIDE IS NEEDED.
John Carroll(1805-1885), married Sarah Phillips d/o old Charles
Phillips. John is probably the son of Old Drewry Carroll from
Smokey Creek; There is no evidence to support this. John made
his home on the Campbell Co., side of Red Oak MT. Eastward from New
River. his home sit just about on the dividing line of And-Camp-Co.

and French Carroll. It was once believed that Melviney Tucker or
Louisa Tucker were the parents of the children, new records have
proven that is not so. Sarah Phillips, James Tucker, Bill Roberts
and James Tucker burial place is unknown. Melviney(Granny)Tucker
buried Grave Hill Church. Philip Seiber buried at Beech Fork Church.

from the gunshot. According to statements from family members
Walter made peace with God on his deathbed, and died telling his
brothers not to blame Bob.
