Wm Cross served in Revolutionary War with three of his brothers: (1) Abe Cross(b/1750), applied for Pension in Sept.1832, from Sullivan Co.,Tenn,Pension #S-1900 (2) Elijah Cross(b/1758), applied for pension in 1832 (3) Zachariah Cross(b/1761), applied for a pension in 1833 According to his Revolutionary War Pension application, William, in September of 1776, at the young age age 14, entered the military service under Captain William Hicks as a drummer boy. His unit marched up the side of the Holsten river and took possession of Shoats Fort. Their mission was to guard the Virginia border against the Cherokee Indians who still controlled most of the land west of what is now Hawkins County, Tennessee. William served in this unit unti l October, 1777, and was honorably discharged. William served in the Revolutionary War in, Tennessee, Virginia and South Carolina with Francis Marion (Swamp Fox). October 1780, William fought in the battle of Kings Mountain, South Carolina. The British lost thousands of lives and defectors. August 1781, He was drafted to fight against the British and Tories under Captain Wallace in Colonel Isaac Shelby's Regiment of Militia. He served 15 months. Some information says he is s/o Old Lark Cross from England. and Lark Cross, settled in Jamestown VA. Also there is conflicting information about his death date; Some information says he died in 1846. Probate: 3 Apr 1846 Scott Co., Tn. Some information says he died in 1815. Micajah's son Pleasant sold his land in Caryville to his brother Larkin W and moved to Rushland Co Indiana. Micajah and Elizabeth's sons and grandsons served in civil war. CROSS FAMILIES OF SCOTT, ANDERSON, MORGAN, CAMPBELL CO TN 

The Cross families of Scott, Anderson, Morgan, Campbell County
are believed to descend  from Acil Cross and Micajah Cross SR.

CROSS, Acil (Asel) (Ansel)(Asahel)(b/?)(d/10-18-1818) Revolutionary
War Vet; married Temperence Dedmond 3-21-1782;   They lived in
Wilkes and Rowen Co NC.
After Acil died Temperence(1763-1853), and her children moved to
Morgan Co TN.  Temperence died in Scott Co TN 8-19-1853.
CHILDREN: Rebecca, Sarah, Nancy, Fanny, Captain Abraham H,
Rufus B, Martha, Mary Etta.
Some of Acil Cross descendents served in the Civil War, listed below.

CROSS, Micajah SR(1780-1815), md Elizabeth__ settled at Caryville.
Micajah is believed to be s/o Old Lark Cross? from England;
Lark settled in Jamestown VA.

Micajah Cross was the first white man to bring his family to the
Walnut Cove in Caryville after the treaty of Tellico in 1798;
According to folklore Shadrach Morris and Jacob Marcum also came
with him. Old Micajah SR had 6 boys. His son Pleasant sold his land
in Caryville to his brother Larkin W and moved to Rushland Co Indiana.
Some of Old Micajah Sr and Elizabeth's sons and grandsons served in the
civil war.  THEIR CHILDREN: Caswell(b/1800), Henry, Pleasant,
Absalom(b/1799), Micajah JR(b/1810),  Larkin W (b/1808.
Louvis Duncan Cross 3-June 1799 to 10 June 1887, wife of Old
Micajah SR Cross is buried in the Cross Cemetery at Smith Creek(Scott CO).

CROSS, Benjamin W 7-15-1840 to 3-13-1864; s/o Larkin W Cross(b/1808).
ARMY RECORD: CROSS, Benjamin W. 2nd TN Inf Pvt Co H; age 20.
29 Jul 1863 to 6 Nov 1863.  Captured at Rogersville, confined to Belle
Isle Prison.  Admitted to Hospital 21 at Richmond VA , 9 Mar 1864 where
he died of Bronchitis.       ROGERSVILLE TN CIVIL WAR BATTLE.

CROSS, Micager (b/1844); s/o Larkin W Cross(b/1808).
ARMY RECORD: Micager Cross; 2nd TN Inf Civil War captured at
Rogersville, confined to Belle Isle VA and Andersonville Ga listed in Hospital
at Andersonville GA 24 May 1864 where he died of diarrhea; grave 1425.

ARMY RECORD: 2nd TN Inf; Pvt H Co age 23. 11/15/1861 to 11/6/1863.
Died in Captivity 21 Jul 1864 at Andersonville GA. Deserted Cumberland
Gap 1 Sep 1862. Returned at Somerset KY 4 Jun 1863. Cap at Rogersville,
confined at Belle Isle and Andersonville Prison Grave 3687  Andersonville GA.

ARMY RECORD: 2nd TN Inf Sgt Co G. Age 25. 25 Oct 1861 to 12
Oct 1864. Hnrbly Discharged. Promoted to Sgt 1 Jan 1862.
Sgt John escaped capture at Rogersville TN.

s/o Micajah (b/1810) and Louvis Duncan Cross. Caswell(m) Kisiah Baker(b/1832),
21 Dec 1848 in Campbell Co.  Caswell had an Uncle Caswell Cross(b/1800),
who served as Register of Deeds in Campbell Co. 1n 1840 and 41.

CROSS, LARK (1/23/1823-11/7/1862) Home Guard,  Cross Cem, Smith Crk.
CROSS, HENRIETTA (1825/1889) (w/o  Lark)         Cross Cem, Smith Crk.
Lark Cross is s/o Micajah(b/1810), and Louvis Duncan Cross; Lark (m) Henrietta
Duncan 2 Apr 1846 in Campbell Co TN. CHILDREN: Rebecca(b/1847),
Manuel(b/1849).
FOLKLORE: A Confederate Patrol came through Scott County and was fired
on by the Home Guard, the patrol circled around and captured Lark and
some of the others and hung them on the spot, one or more of the
Confederates was killed in the fight.

11/7/1862, the home guard fired on a band of Confederates who were
passing through Scott Co, who circled back and captured Larkin Cross
and some others, they hanged them on the spot, the rest fled with the
Confederates close behind following on horseback; They ran into a hunter
named Richard Sharp who yelled "what 'n the hell is the matter" one of
the home guard said  "you'll soon be in hell, look acoming there"  Richard
aimed from behind a tree and shot one rebel dead and shot the horse out
from under another, the rebels turned and fled;  The home guard rushed
back and cut the hanged men down;  Lark was still warm but could not be
revived; Later Sharp went by the nickname Devil Dick.
Lark had sons named Clabe and Vanover.

CROSS, Captain Abraham H(1804-1907); Abraham is buried at Brimstone.
S/o Acil and Temperence Cross;  Cap Abraham Served in the Union Army;
10/11/1861 to 7/7/1862;  He resigned because of ill health and lived in the
Brimstone Area with his wife Francis White Cross and family.  CHILDREN:
William L (b/1832),  John F (b/1836), James M (b/1838). Sarah (b/1842),
Delila (b/1842), Hugh W(b/1844), Thomas (b/1846).
