HUTSON, WILLIAM FULLER (1797-1867).
According to tradition, three Hutson brothers came to Tennessee from
Virginia, or from North Carolina.
Two of the brothers settled near Jellico, Tennessee.
Fuller Hutson settled on Indian Creek (also called Big Creek), where he
entered about 1000 acres.
Fuller Hutson's father is assumed to be John Hutson who lived in the
Watauga Settlements, around Boone NC.
James Coal Hutson, son of William and Elizabeth Hutson, was born in
Montgomery County, Va., Novenber 21, 1821. His father moved to
Tennessee when James was six years old, settling in Campbell County.
That would put the move from Virginia at about 1827,
One tradition claims the family is Dutch (Pennsylvania German) in ancestry,
though the name HUTSON is traced back to northern England, Scotland
and Northern Ireland.
Rev. Anthony Hutson, s/o Reubin Hutson, said his grandmother Elizabeth
was Irish (Scotts-Irish).
Fuller Hutson is buried in the old Indian Creek Cemetary, Campbell Co TN.

THis old letter was found by Sue Morrison.
Papers in possession of a deceased relative included a letter that
may be of help to someone looking for Coopers. Don't think it is
my line, and don't know how my uncle came to own it. Can't read
the salutation, so don't know to whom it was written (Looks like
Mr. J------h?), but is dated June 4, 1901, from St. John, Kansas.
Here is the text, as best I can make it out, [? means I am not
sure of the word] in hopes that it will help someone.
Dear Sir;
I will try to furnish you the information you desire.
My father was John Cooper from the State of Maryland and
he was a bound boy and ran away from home in his teens and
traveled and worked around until the breaking out of the war
of 1812. He then enlisted in Capt. Liew [?] Hales Co. which
was stationed at Norfolk, Va., and got an honorable discharge
from the army and then married my mother in Gracen [?] Co., Va.
Her name was Hester Sage [or Page?]. He then moved to Ky near
Somerset where I was born Nov 25, 1823. We then moved to Tenn
the following year and located in Campbell Co., 5 miles south of
Jacksboro where I grew to manhood and married Mary J. Hutson
in the month of April 1846 and in Sept. 47 I enlisted in the
Mexican war and served until the close of the war. When I returned
to my old home until Aug 1 [?], 1861, and then I organized the
first company from the state of Tenn for the Federal army and made
my way under the cover of night to Williamsburg, Ky. and there I was
mustered into the service on the 8 day of August 1861 with 101 men.
We were ordered to Camp [?] Dick [?] Robinson [?]on the 17th of Aug.
to join Gen. Nelson. I was mustered out of the service by a general
order from the war department on the 15 day of Jan. 1866.
I am now living in Stafford Co. Kans. five miles west and two miles
north of St. John the county seat.
Kind regards, Gen. Joseph A. Cooper.
P.S. My full name is Joseph Alexander Cooper."
