Reverend Francis McKemy

THE MCKAMEY PATRIARCH IS REVEREND FRANCIS MCKEMY[1]
who came to America to preach from Ulster in 1685; FRANCIS had two sons,
namely; ROBERT[2] and JOHN[2] who settled in Staunton VA.
Francis's son JOHN[2] his descendents were WILLIAM C[3]., and JOHN[3] McKamey
who later settled in Monroe and Roane County, TN
Francis's son ROBERT[2] moved to SC and died in 1774; He and his sons namely;
JOHN[3], WILLIAM[3], ANDREW[3], ROBERT[3] and JAMES[3] were wealthy cattle traders;
One son married into a SC., Calhoun family, his son, JOHN[3] served in the
Revolutionary War;

All five of Roberts[2] sons; JOHN[3], WILLIAM[3], ANDREW[3], ROBERT[3]
and JAMES[3]moved to Knox Co, Tn., in 1796.

JOHN lived on the Anderson-Roane County line in Oak Ridge, later he moved to
Roane Co about 1805.

Sons ROBERT and JAMES are mentioned in Goodspeeds history of Anderson County
in 1820 as merchants of Clinton Tn.

About 1795, JOHN[3] and ANDREW[3] went back to Staunton Virginia and married
their 1st cousins, daughters of William McKamey and Eleanor Cooper; While
there Andrew's wife had a daughter named Sally Isabelle, born in 1796; When
they returned to Tennessee, their wive's brothers namely William C. and John C.
came back with them and settled in Roane County; Later William C. & John C.,
their mother Isabell Cooper McKamey, & their sister Annie moved to Roane Co.
in 1808. Annie married Robert Galbreath and lived north of Oliver Springs.
John C. lived in Oliver Springs.

Old Robert[2] McKamey who died in SC., in 1774; two of his sons WM[3] and
ANDREW[3]Sr(b/1773), purchased 200 acres each of a 400 acre tract of land
from a man named Reed, this deed is recorded 4/10/1797 in Knox Co, in book A,
page 241,Andrew bought 50 acres more from Reed in 1800; This tract is located
on the East Fork of the 1st Creek that falls into the Clinch River below the
Cumberland Fork; This land is believed to be located at Pouplar Creek at Marlow,
between Clinton and Oak Ridge.
Catherine B. Hoskins in the History of Anderson County states that Bush Brothers
Canning Co, opened a plant in Clinton in 1923 and bought the old McKamey farm
to grow their own vegetables. Raymond Denny Jr., of Chattanooga Tn., says his
father, Raymond Denny Sr(1895/1977) (a descendant of the McKameys) told him
there were footings of slave cabins and a slave cemetery on the old farm.

Anderson County was established 11/6/1801 & on 12/15/1801, the court of
pleas and quarter sessions was organized in the home of Joseph Dehham Sr.
WILLIAM[3] McKamey, ANDREWS[3] brother was elected Judge, and brother
JOHN[3] was elected County Ranger. WILLIAM[3] was known as JUDGE
WILLIAM, he also served as County Trustee from 1816 to 1831.

Barton, Margaret, John.

and family moved to Arkansas in 1857, from the old sixth district of Anderson
County, his daughter Mary Ann married W.B. Robbins & stayed in Anderson Co.

moved south of Athens Tn in 1840.

Barton McKamey[4] (d/1854),
he farmed in the sixth CD of Anderson County, and paid taxes on 1000 acres in
the seventh CD of Anderson, his widow Mathilda Robbins McKamey moved to
Texas with her father Sam Robbins. Barton served as County Trustee of
Anderson County from 1844 to 1852.

never married. A Margaret McKamey (1823/1899) is buried in McKamey Cem.

the youngest son settled at Marlow between Clinton and Oak Ridge, his house
still exists 1991; John is buried in Anderson County on Bush Rd, McKamey Cem.

ANDREW MCKAMEY SR[3]. (1773/1852),
s/o Robert McKamey[2] and brother of Judge William[3] McKamey married his 1st
wife,Margaret McKamey 11/15/1795 in Augusta Co Va., the d/o Old William
McKamey and Isabell Cooper; Margaret was Andrew's 1st Cousin; Andrew 2nd
married Nancy McKamey, d/o Old John McKamey and Eleanor Cooper, Nancy was
also his 1st Cousin.
9/9/1836 Nancy's father John McKamey had died and Nancy gave her husband
Andrew Power of Attorney to settle the estate in Augusta County Virginia.
Nancy died before 1850; Andrew died in the old 7th CD of And-Co., in 1852.

(b/4/5/1790) in Maryland, and Isabella Frost; Isabella was the d/o Macagah
Frost Revolutionary War Soldier, 1st settler of Frost Bottom; Samuel Seiber
was the s/o Philip (1770-1845), from Maryland.

Goldman & Polly heired most of Martin Kennedy's land when he died, in 1886
Goldman sold two tracts of land at Beech Fork (Shea) to Lacy Levi Adkins for
2000.00, and in 1886 Goldman purchased land in the 8th CD of Anderson Co.
In 1889 Goldman died from a fall from his horse; He and Polly are buried at
Robertsville Baptist Church, Cemetery 30#, Oak Ridge.

7/17/1863, Nancy Bunch McKamey married 2nd to John E. White(b/1835), s/o
Jacob and Susannah White. In 1857 Nancy and John had the Anderson Co. Court
authorize the sale of land of Andrew McKamey deceased, the house part
embracing the widows dower was sold off to Nancy White at 680.00, the other
called the Issac Duncan tract, was sold to Issac Duncan for 365.00. Nancy and
her husband John were divorced by 1880. In the 1880 Census Nancy and her
son John White were living with her son Andrew McKamey (b/1848).
