Michael settled in the head of Little Creek at New River, later
moving to the ridges at Caryville. Michael donated land for Rains

his sermon about his starving family with out food for days; Little malt prayed
over the Ground Hog hole until the Ground Hog came out and sat quietly until
Malt got a stick and killed it. Little Malt was very poor, humble, uneducated,
but his preaching was very spiritual. CHILDREN: Rosie Phillips who married
