A deed recorded 1852, book M, page 40, Campbell County TN; lists the Heirs
of Benjamin Ward Jr 11 who left Valle Crucis NC about 1824 and settled at
the mouth of Beech Fork Creek at New River, his daughters; Susannah md
Moses Phillips; Clarissa md Claibourn Phillips; and Mary (Vina) md John Phillips.

Claibourn Phillips in 1850 census of Anderson County TN; Claibourn;
Clary his wife 23; Polly 9; Charles 6; Clarborn 2.
Claibourne Phillips last appeared in 1860 Campbell County Census with wife
Clara, age 40; Charles 16; Thomas 9; Moses 7; and Benjamin 5.

Claibourne Phillips md Clarissa Ward 8/9/1840 in Anderson County and settled
on Red Oak Mountain. Clarissa is buried at Beech Fork Church;
Claibourns parents are unknown and his burial place is unknown;
No records found of him after 1860;
He could have been a victim of the Civil War.

by Rev Madison Kennedy.
Cresia was d/o Old Thomas Marlow(1805-1/1861) widow of Bird Daugherty
(b/1838), s/o Ell who was killed in Civil War. Bird and Crecia had two sons,
Ruben and Ell. Charles Phillips was apppointed guardian of Ruben and Ell minor
orphans of Bird Daugherty. When the civil war started Cresia's father Thomas,
her husband Bird and many relatives joined the union army; Cresia's father and
husband never returned. Old Thomas Marlow died in the Civil War and buried
below Lexington KY. Bird Daugherty died also in the Civil War and believed
buried in KY.
Cresia 2nd md Charles Phillips also in the Civil War, USA CO H 2ND TN INF
from 1861 to 1865, Charles deserted was reinstated,honorable discharge.
Buried in Rains Grove Cemetery, Caryville, with a Civil War Marker, CO H
2ND INF, no dates.
Cresia buried at Grave Hill Church, Stainville(Elijah's Fork).
Charles and Lucretia (Cresia) lived in the Eli Ward Branch(Elijah's Fork), later
moving to the Ridges in Caryville, they had no children.
Ruben and Ell Daugherty are listed as step children of Charles Phillips.

Family folklore: Tom Marlow had children named Hue L. and Sally; Sally
married Richard McGhee, Richard and Sally had a daughter named Laura Ellen
McGhee who married William (Bill) Phillips. Hue L. married Anna Phillips
William's sister. Anna and Hue had two or more children. Hue got in trouble
and spent time in prison for conspircy in a murder, Annie then lived with her
brother William. William's wife Laura Ellen died and William married 2nd to
Hattie Carroll; Hue's father Tom seized Annie's children and took them away,
none of the family ever heard from them again. Annie, William and Hattie
moved to Kentucky, Annie suffering mentally died in Kentucky with a heart attack.
William and Hattie moved back to New River. Later they visited Anna's gravesite
and couldn't find it (Aunt Ollie Phillips).
(Note) Thomas(Tom)Marlow(1836-1921) 1st md Milly Ann Wilson, d/o Abraham;
2nd md Parsidda McGhee, d/o Thomas and Sally Lowe McGhee. Tom and 2nd
wife buried in Marlow Cemetery. 1st wife Milly buried in Rains Grove.
Tom Marlow lived on New River and later moved to the Ridges at Caryville.
