According to Jehu Phillips(s/o Joseph) in an Interview about 1904;
About 1803 Tommie PHILLIPS, and brother Joseph PHILLIPS and his
son Jonathan PHILLIPS and JOSHUA GOAD moved from Scott Co, Va.,
and settled about two miles south of Huntsville on what is now known
as the Vanderpool place.

Tobias was s/o George Phillips, Sr. and Hannah Goad.
Tobias md Margaret (Peggy) Jennings in 1767 in North Farmington,
Richmond Co., VA. Tobis enrolled in the militia company of William Bobbitt.
Tobias claimed reimbursement for provisions furnished to the Montgomery
militia under Major Cloyd. Some of Tobis Phillips children moved to Scott Co TN.
In 1772 in Pittsylvania Co, he bought five slaves from his grandmother
Hannah Goad Phillips Dodson. Two years later, she sold him 150 acres.
Tobias’ grandson Jehu Phillips of Scott CO TN.,remembered him
having as many as sixty slaves.
Tobis died near Greasy Creek in Grayson Co, VA.
Tobis is buried in Plantation Cem.
Tobias’ grandson Jehu Phillips of Scott CO TN., stated that the Scott Co
TN PHILLIPS'S came from Scott Co., Va.
Evidently Scott Co VA., was renamed, Grayson Co, VA. or Pittsylvania Co, VA.

ABNER THOMAS married REBECCA BROWN. He came from Powell Valley
to Scott County and first settled on Paint Rock at the old Ellis place
above the Ewell Duncan farm. He had eleven children. His sons were
JOHN, WILLIAM and WILEY (ABNER W.).
(1) JOHN emigrated to Bartholene County, Indiana;
(2) WILLIAM emigrated to Dodd City, Arkansas.
(WILLIAM's son, W. MARION, lived at Livingston, Texas in 1935 or 1936).
WILEY THOMAS had two sons, ANDY and ABNER III.
(3) ABNER I owned the farm where JOHN STANLEY and his son now live and
is buried there in the Thomas Cemetery.
ABNER had a sister (**Keziah) that married (**Johnathan)JACK PHILLIPS and
reared a family near Huntsville, Tennessee.
THOMAS L., WILLIAM and AB PHILLIPS were her sons.
He also had another sister, SALLIE, who was the mother of CALVIN
and ISAAC THOMAS, WILLIS and WESLEY OWENS,
PRIOR and HUSTON BROWN, and several daughters.
